The Glycemic Index Food List – How to Change Your Diet

We all – at least to some degree – have bad eating habits. Our waistlines prove this to be true. But, by using the glycemic index food list, we can seriously improve our health and our weight! Like any major lifestyle change, it can be accomplished all at once or by slowly making the adjustment. The initial change to eating foods that are low on the glycemic index food list is the hardest one. The hard part is really just making the decision to do it, the rest comes pretty naturally. Once you start noticing all the pounds falling away and how much better you feel, you’ll look forward to incorporating even more changes in your diet. The switch can be difficult because… No critique of you or your lifestyle, but it’s probable that you have been eating the same (bad) foods for a very long time. It’s become a habit. We’re all creatures of habit – that’s just the way life is. It takes some real drive and motivation to get past our habits and make positive changes in our lives. That’s why it is so easy to “fall off the wagon”. Depending on the sort of person you are…there are many ways to incorporate change in your diet. Some of us just want to make a drastic change and be done with it, others favor a more gradual adjustment. There’s no right or wrong… For the best chances of overall success, you need to ask yourself, “What type of change is the best for me?” If you stick with the best one for your personality type, it will be much easier. Drastic Changes in your Diet. The most common technique for most of us is to go “cold turkey” from bad food options. It will show the fastest results and can be quite motivating. It’s harder, but with the right strategies, it can be done. Are you rich and wasteful? Or frugal and counting your pennies (like most of us). The first step in making a dramatic diet change is to get rid of all the bad food options in the house. If you have no temptation you won’t be, well…tempted. You could throw out all your food, or hold off on shopping until it’s gone. When grocery shopping day comes, write out a shopping list of foods that have a low glycemic number – or just print out a copy of the glycemic index food list and head to the store. Be sure to stick to the list and stock your pantry with food that is good for your health and diet. Stick with the list and you won’t have any “bad” foods in the house. If you have no temptations you’ll be forced to eat healthy! Gradually changing to a healthier diet. Gradually switching out our foods from unhealthy to better options would seem to be the easier route. Not always…if you have a bunch of unhealthy food options in the house, you will likely choose them first. Even so, For some of us, making gradual changes to our diet is the best option. The gradual shift method works if you make it a point to buy at least one item from the glycemic index food list every time you go shopping. Use it as a permanent change to your diet and never go back. The time will eventually arrive when ALL of your food choices are the best options available. Seems like a lot of effort…why should we make the change? Eating foods that have low ranking on the glycemic index food list is good for us in many ways. Not just in weight loss. Though it IS one of the best ways to lose weight, it is good for our general health as well. It helps diabetics control their blood sugar levels, it’s beneficial in preventing heart disease and other health benefits too numerous to mention here.
